Sciatica is a general term used to describe pain that runs down the leg from the lower back and/or sacrum. The pain can start anywhere and go as far down as the toes. It can be on any part of the leg, sometimes a burning pain, sometimes a shooting pain.
Sciatica is caused by pressure or impingement on any of the nerves that run down the lower back, hip and leg. This pressure can be caused by muscle, connective tissue or bone.
Piriformis Syndrome is sciatic pain caused by a sprained and swollen muscle in the hip, usually the piriformis muscle.
Many patients that visit our clinic with hip and leg pain experience partial and temporary relief with just one treatment and more complete and longer lasting relief with a series of weekly treatments. The number of treatments is unique to every patient, depending in part on the severity of the condition.
